Since the mass displacement of peoples due to environmental and political disruption in Goma, we have supporting 29 children and 17 carers. Due to new conflict arising in the area in November 2023, after handing over the new houses we built, the children have been relocated to a house in the Goma town. All funds raised will be used to support the children’s on-going costs including: schooling, medical expenses and food.

Watoto wa Lumumba

Non-Fungible Charity Token

This exceptional, hand-drawn collection by Congolese artist, Justin Kasereka, is titled Watoto wa Lumumba, which translates from Kiswahili to ‘children of Lumumba’. It is inspired by the ‘The Dream of the House’ project for children'.

"This collection portrays the transmissions and the legacy that we must pass to the next generation to be able to break the chains. The motifs depict patterns and symbols of belonging or identity so that children may learn to love themselves and find their roles and assume it."

The Artist

Justin Kasereka

Justin Kasereka's work illustrates a poetic, geopolitical and ancestral language through representations made of intricate patterns and motifs. It is a daring plunge into African ethno- graphic symbolism and a projection of both revival and revolt. Kasereka’s portraits celebrate greatness and are a narration of rich cultural roots, inspiring viewers to reflect on the pathology of African history.

Justin Kasereka was born in 1987 in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2006 he relocated to continue his studies in visual communication at the academy of fine arts in Kinshasa. In 2011, Kasereka returned to Goma, a post-conflict zone, where his life and artistic expression is caught in a balancing act between peace and war.
